Sommer's Story

Sommer Joy is a compassionate, pre-licensed psychotherapist with a Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Eckerd College. She is dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey of healing, growth, and self-discovery through a holistic approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. Sommer's work focuses on helping clients navigate life's challenges, cultivate emotional well-being, and find meaning in their lived experiences.

Sommer’s passion for mental health began during her career as an educator, where she noticed many students struggling with anxiety and depression. Her own journey took a profound turn after the traumatic loss of her husband in 2018, prompting her to leave teaching and pursue therapy. As a widow and suicide loss survivor, she has a unique understanding of the challenges widows and widowers face in seeking meaning and rebuilding relationships after loss.

Outside the therapy space, Sommer is dedicated to educating and empowering marginalized teens and young adults by providing inclusive, comprehensive sex education. Her work in this area helps individuals make informed choices about their bodies and relationships, furthering her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
